It is the Singer Slant -O-Matic 401A ,the last machine with all metal parts made entirely in the USA.

Hi, Cindy. When I was in what was then called "Junior High School" (7th and 8th grades) I took "Home Economics" - which all girls did back then (the boys took "Shop"). Home Ec consisted of three modules - Health, Cooking, and Sewing. It was my introduction to sewing with a machine and I loved it. When I was finished with the course, my parents bought me a Singer Slant-O-Matic, which was the most progressive home sewing machine of its time! I use a Bernina now, and I love it, but I still have my Singer.
